ALICIA (All Conditions Operations and Innovative Cockpit Infrastructure)
ALICIA is a research and development IP project founded by European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme and started in September 2009.
ALICIA addresses the ACARE objective of increasing time efficiency within the future air transport system. The aim will be to develop a new and scalable cockpit application which can extend operations of aircraft in degraded conditions – “All Conditions Operations”. A key objective will be to deliver an extensible application that can be applied to many aircraft types. This will necessarily entail a new cockpit infrastructure capable of delivering enhanced situation awareness to the crew whilst simultaneously reducing crew workload and improving overall aircraft safety.
The project started on September 1st 2009. An official project kick off meeting event was organised by the coordinator AgustaWestland in Yeovilton, UK. This successful event was attended by almost all 42 beneficiaries as well as the representative for the EU Commission, who was assisted by 3 independent reviewers.
The project partners have already launched some of the “early” work packages and are already engaged on a range of technical tasks many of which are challenging aircraft operating procedures, airspace infrastructure and technological capabilities.
